An Introduction to Villa Calma
Whether you're longing for a romantic get-away, relaxing retreat or traveling on business, you can enjoy the quiet ambiance of our Old-World Tuscan Villa. Located just 200 feet from the west shore of Lake Bemidji, you can awake in one of our richly decorated guest rooms to a breathtaking view of the morning sun rising over the lake. Slip out of your down duvet covered bed and let us treat you to a delicious gourmet breakfast and a cup of coffee or tea in the Great Room. After a day of exploration or relaxation, pour a glass of complimentary wine and sit out on our three season porch or around the bon fire and view the activity on the lake. Each season on the west shore of Lake Bemidji offers you a sense of serenity and beauty.
Conveniently located just five blocks from downtown Bemidji or two blocks from Bemidji State University on the Paul Bunyan Trail system, this grand home was built in 1910 by Ole Anderson and his wife Clara. During the time Ole and Clara resided in the home, they were also the owners of a Saloon and Restaurant located on 3rd Street in downtown Bemidji. They lived in the home until 1918 when they sold it to the Baer Family. Many of the decendants of Homer and Isabelle Baer, still reside in the area. Villa Calma is nestled in the middle of a well-known historic district, an eight-block section of Lake Boulevard once known as Bemidji's "Gold Coast." As you walk along Lake Boulevard you will enjoy viewing the Dr. Johnson House built in 1910 with a showcase garden. The Bacon House also built in 1910, later becoming a

Catholic convent. The Fisk House is a unique log home reconstructed log-by-log on its present site. Judge Fisk entertained many distinguished guests including writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Warfield House is a home built in 1912, once occupied by the man who built Bemidji's first electric light plant. The Parker & Mangelsdorf House is known for its large, informal gardens cared for by the two female teachers who resided there in the 1930s.
Right outside our front doors you can access the 17 mile Paul Bunyan Trail system. Bring your bicycle, roller blades, or take a leisurely walk along the paved trail. Spend time exploring the shores of Lake Bemidji and watch the eagles soar overhead. Nymore Beach and Diamond Point Park are a short distance away and are great places to swim, or pack a picnic lunch for your stop at Lake Bemidji State Park located on the north shore of the lake. If you prefer kayaking or canoeing, take the steps down to the lake. Lake Bemidji offers some of the best fishing in the area in both Summer and Winter. Public lake access is also only 5 minutes up the shoreline. Bemidji and the surrounding area offer incredible golfing options. In the Winter, head 15 minutes north of Bemidji to Buena Vista Ski Area. If you prefer to stay around the house and relax, you can play croquet on the lawn, or just sit on the deck and play a game or read.
